A few more photos of a "Spirit Bear" of the Great Bear Rainforest of British Columbia during the first week of October.
She is feeding intently on salmon in the stream, and she is not overly threatened by our human presence.
It was an exceptional privilege to be allowed to sit in the same place from morning to afternoon over the course of several days to watch her, and to gain so much insight into her private life – and the lives, both human and non-human, around her.
A refuge.
“This is the assembly of life that took a billion years to evolve. It has eaten the storms — folded them into its genes — and created the world that created us. It holds the world steady. “
— Edward O. Wilson
